Based from Genesis 3 because the serpent deceived the woman it was cursed and crawls on his belly. (Crawling on his belly might not be the serpent’s previous state.)
“₁ NOW the serpent was more subtle than all the wild beasts that the LORD God had made. And the serpent said to the woman, Truly has God said that you shall not eat of any tree of the garden?
₄ And the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die;
₅ For God knows that in the day you eat of it, your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be like gods, knowing good and evil.
₁₃ And the LORD God said to the woman, What is this that you have done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
₁₄ And the LORD God said to the serpent, Because you have done this thing, cursed are you above all cattle, and above all beasts of the field; on your belly shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life;
₁₅ And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your posterity and her posterity; her posterity shall tread your head under foot, and you shall strike him in his heel.
– Genesis 3:1,4,5,13-15 LBP
₁₄ Then the LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all animals, domestic and wild. You will crawl on your belly, groveling in the dust as long as you live.
– Genesis 3:14, NLT
1. Going back and forth in heaven and earth
In job story (old testament) Satan can freely go anywhere. He can go on earth and heaven back and forth. But to be able to do what he wants to do, he needs to ask permission from God first. He also goes everywhere to accuse
“₆ Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present them selves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
₇ And the LORD said to Satan, Whence have you come? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking on it.
₁₁ But put forth thy hand now, and destroy all that he has, and he will curse thee to thy face.
₁₂ And the LORD said to Satan, Behold, all that he has is in your power; only upon himself you shall not put forth your hand. So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.”
– Job 1:6-7,11-12, LBP
“₁ AGAIN there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.
₂ And the LORD said to Satan, Whence have you come? And Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking on it.
₅ But put forth thy hand now, and touch his flesh or his bone, and he will curse thee to thy face.
₆ And the LORD said to Satan, Behold, he is delivered into your hands; only spare his life.
₇ So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with cancer from the sole of his foot to his brain.”
– Job 2:1-7, LBP
2. Cast out from heaven to earth
When Satan, otherwise called as Devil, old serpent or dragon has lost in the war in heaven, Satan and his angels were thrown out on earth. And when he was casted down from heaven he pursued the woman who had given birth to a son
“₇ And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought,
₈ But did not prevail; neither was their place found any longer in heaven.
₉ Thus the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world: he was cast out on the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
₁₀ And I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, Now the deliverance and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ, has been accomplished: for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before God day and night, is cast down.
₁₁ And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they did not spare themselves even unto death.
₁₂ Therefore rejoice, O ye heavens and you who dwell in them. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, and of the sea! for the Devil has come down to you; and his wrath is great, because he knows that his time is short.
₁₃ And when the dragon saw that he was cast down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to a son.
– Revelation 12:7-13, LBP
Satan is roaming around the earth
Satan goes in different place in the earth. is on earth. Claiming as if it owned the earth and will give it to Christ if He worshipped satan. (Note: only the king James translation was this words were written: I will give you all this power and its glory, which are entrusted to me, andI give it to whom I please;. Prashitta Lamsa, New Living Translation and American Standard did not include these words in the text.
“₁ THEN Jesus was carried away by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the adversary.
₃ And the tempter drew near and said to him, If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.
₅ Then the adversary took him to the holy city, and he made him to stand up on the pinnacle of the temple.
₆ And he said to him, If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it is written, that he will command his angels concerning you, and they will bear you up on their hands, so that even your foot may not strike a stone.
₈ Again the adversary took him to a very high mountain, and he showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
₉ And he said to him, All of these I will give to you, if you will fall down and worship me.
– Matthew 4:1,3,5-6, 8-9 LBP
“₁ NOW Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and the Spirit carried him away into the wilderness,
₅ Then Satan took him up to a high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the earth in a short time.
₆ And the adversary said to him, I will give you all this power and its glory, which are entrusted to me, and I give it to whom I please;
₇ If therefore you worship me, it will all be yours.
₉ And he brought him to Jerusalem and made him to stand up on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here;
₁₀ For it is written, That he will command his angels concerning you, to watch you;
₁₁ And they will take you up in their arms, so that even your foot may not strike a stone.
₁₂ Jesus answered and said to him, It is said, You shall not tempt the Lord your God.
₁₃ When the adversary was through with all his temptations, he left him for some time.”
– Luke 4:1,5-7,9 -13, LBP
“₁₂ And immediately the Spirit drove him out into the wilderness.
₁₃ And he was there in the wilderness forty days, being tried out by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to him.”
– Mark 1:12-13, LBP
Christ himself said Satan has fallen from heaven
Christ instructed his disciples to reach out to others as well. When the disciples returned Christ mentioned about Satan falling from heaven.
“₁ AFTER these things, Jesus selected from his disciples seventy others, and he sent them two by two before his face, to every place and city to which he was to go.
₂ And he said to them, The harvest is great, and the laborers are few; ask therefore the owner of the harvest, to bring out laborers to his harvest.
₃ Go forth; behold, I send you as lambs among wolves.
₄ Do not carry purses, nor bags, nor shoes; and do not salute any man on the road.
…
₁₇ So the seventy whom he had sent returned with great joy, and they said to him, Our Lord, even the demons have submitted to us in your name.
₁₈ He said to them, I saw Satan falling like lightning from heaven.
– Luke 10:1-4,17-18, LBP
“₁₈ And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.”
– Luke 10:18, KJV
₁₈ ”Yes,” he told them, “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning!
– Luke 10:18, NLT
“₁₈ At sinabi niya sa kanila, “Nakita ko si Satanas na nahulog na gaya ng kidlat mula sa langit.”
– Lucas 10:18, AB
3. Cast out from the world
Beginning from the Triumphant entry of Christ to Jerusalem, he started to mention again about being glorified. This event occurred a few days before Passover (John 12:1). This is the beginning of Christ journey to crucifixion. It leads to the succeeding events from last supper, Judas betrayal, and prayer at the Gethsemane garden where he was arrested. Christ mentioned about judgment. Notice that he also repeatedly say that that the leader/ prince of this world will be cast out. Observe that Christ did not say cast out from heaven. But he repeatedly mentioned the word world.
“₁₂ On the next day, a large crowd which had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
₁₃ Took branches of palm trees, and went out to greet him, and they cried out and said, Hosanna, Blessed is the king of Israel who comes in the name of the Lord.
₁₄ And Jesus found an ass and sat on it; as it is written,
₁₅ Fear not, O daughter of Zion; behold, your king cometh to you, riding on the colt of an ass.
₁₆ His disciples did not understand these things at that time; but when Jesus was glorified, then his disciples remembered that these things were written concerning him, and that they had done these things to him.
₁₇ The people who were with him testified that he had called Lazarus from the tomb, and raised him from the dead.”
– John 12:12-17, LBP
“₂₃ Jesus answered and said to them, The hour has come that the Son of man should be glorified.
₂₄ Truly, truly, I say to you, that unless a grain of wheat falls and dies in the ground, it will be left alone; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.
₂₅ He who loves his life will lose it; and he who has no concern for his life in this world will keep it unto life eternal.
₂₆ If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there also will my servant be; he who serves me, him my Father will honor.
₂₇ Now my soul is disturbed, and what shall I say? O my Father, deliver me from this hour; but for this cause I came to this very hour.
₂₈ O Father, glorify your name. Then a voice was heard from heaven, I am glorified, and I shall again be glorified.
₂₉ And the people who stood by heard it, and said, It was thunder; others said, An angel spoke to him.
₃₀ Jesus answered and said to them, This voice was not on my account, but for your sake.
₃₁ Now is the judgment of this world; now the leader of this world will be cast out.”
– John 12:23-31, LBP
₂₃ And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
₃₁ Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.”
– John 12:23,31: KJV
Christ washes the feet of the disciples
“₁ NOW before the feast of the passover, Jesus knew the hour had come to depart from this world to his Father. And he loved his own who were in this world, and he loved them unto the end.
₂ During supper, Satan put into the heart of Judas, son of Simon of Iscariot, to deliver him.
₅ Then he poured water into a basin, and began to wash the feet of his disciples, and to wipe them with the apron which was tied around his loins.”
– John 13:1-2,5 LBP
“₂₆ Jesus answered and said, The one for whom I dip bread and give to him. So Jesus dipped the bread, and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon of Iscariot.
₂₇ And after the bread, Satan took possession of him. So Jesus said to him, What you are going to do, do it soon.
₂₈ But no man of those who were sitting at the table understood what he said to him.
₂₉ For some of them thought, because the purse was with Judas, that he ordered him to buy what was needed for the feast; or to give something to the poor.
₃₀ Judas then received the bread and went outside immediately; it was night when he went out.
₃₁ Jesus then said, Now the Son of man is glorified, and God is glorified by him.”
– John 13:26-31, LBP
“₃₀ Hereafter I will not talk much with you; for the prince of this world comes; and yet he has nothing against me.”
– John 14:30, LBP
“₅ But now I am going to him who sent me, and yet no one of you asks me, Where are you going?
…
₁₀ Concerning righteousness, because I go to my Father, and you will not see me again;
₁₁ Concerning judgment, because the leader of this world has been judged.”
– John 16:5,10-11, LBP
Fallen angels in the bottomless pit
◾Fallen angels
“₅ I will, therefore, remind you, though you once knew this, that God, having redeemed and saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
₆ And the angels that did not keep their first estate but left their own habitation, he has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
₇ Even as Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbouring cities which in like manner gave themselves over to fornication, and followed after other carnal lusts, are condemned to judgment and placed under everlasting fire;
₈ Likewise also, these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise authority, and blaspheme against the glory.”
– Jude 1:5-8, LBP
◾Angel of the bottomless pit and his locusts looking subordinates
₁ AND the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven upon the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.
₂ And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as smoke belching from a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.
₃ And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.
…
₇ And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared for battle; and on their heads were, as it were, crowns like gold, and their faces were as faces of men.
₈ And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.
₉ And they had breastplates, as though they were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.
₁₀ And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and they had power to hurt men five months.
₁₁ And they had a king over them, who was the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is, A-bad’don, but in Greek his name is A-poll’yon.
– Revelation 9:1-3,7-11, LBP
₁ AND I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit, and a great chain in his hand.
₂ And he seized the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Tempter and Satan, who deceived the whole world, and bound him a thousand years,
₃ And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up and set a seal over him, that he should no more deceive the nations until the thousand years should be fulfilled: after that he will be loosed for a short time.
…
₇ And when the thousand years come to an end. Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
– Revelation 20:1-3,7, LBP
◾Fallen from heaven! howl in the morning (Babylon king)
– also called day-star, son of the morning (ASV) fallen from heaven, O shining star, son of the morning (NLT). Only the King James Version had mentioned the name Lucifer.
Though many biblical scholars believe that this chapter refers to Satan because they say that Satan’s other name is Lucifer, it’s important to notice that in verse 4, it mentions that it’s about the King of Babylon and verse 16 says it’s a man. Many will argue that despite the carnal nature of how this being was described through the words used, it must not be interpreted literally because it has a deeper meaning. We are not saying this is not satan, and the assumption that this is satan is incorrect.
However, we don’t want to jump into theories unless we have seen biblical verses that strongly support this assumption. It is our goal to understand the bible objectively and accurately by allowing verses to interpret what verses say. This chapter though is filed/included under the fallen star prince post because it is related to the topic. This post will be updated as soon as we have gained wisdom and a better understanding of this topic.
“₄ You shall take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How has the ruler ceased! the zealous one ceased!
₉ Sheol beneath is murmuring at your coming; it stirs up against you all the mighty men, even all the rulers of the earth whom you overthrew from their thrones.
₁₁ Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, the noise of your harps is dead; the dust is spread under you, and the worms cover you.
₁₂ How are you fallen from heaven! howl in the morning! for you have fallen down to the ground, O reviler of the nations.
₁₃ For you have said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will dwell also upon the high mountains in the outer regions of the north.
₁₄ I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
₁₅ From henceforth you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the bottom of the pit.
₁₆ Those who see you shall stare at you and consider you, saying, Is this the man who made the earth to tremble, who shook kingdoms;
₁₉ But you are cast out of your grave like an abominable person, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through by the sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as corpses trodden under foot.
– Isaiah 14:4,9,11-16,19 LBP
“₄ That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!
₉ Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.
₁₁ Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.
₁₂ How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
₁₃ For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
₁₄ I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
₁₅ Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
₁₆ They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
₁₉ But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcass trodden under feet.
– Isaiah 14:4,9,11-16,19, KJV
₄ you will taunt the king of Babylon. You will say, “The mighty man has been destroyed. Yes, your insolence is ended.
₉ ”In the place of the dead there is excitement over your arrival. The spirits of world leaders and mighty kings long dead stand up to see you.
₁₁ Your might and power were buried with you. The sound of the harp in your palace has ceased. Now maggots are your sheet, and worms your blanket.’
₁₂ ”How you are fallen from heaven, O shining star, son of the morning! You have been thrown down to the earth, you who destroyed the nations of the world.
₁₃ For you said to yourself, ‘I will ascend to heaven and set my throne above God’s stars. I will preside on the mountain of the gods far away in the north.
₁₄ I will climb to the highest heavens and be like the Most High.’
₁₅ Instead, you will be brought down to the place of the dead, down to its lowest depths.
₁₆ Everyone there will stare at you and ask, ‘Can this be the one who shook the earth and made the kingdoms of the world tremble?
₁₉ but you will be thrown out of your grave like a worthless branch. Like a corpse trampled underfoot, you will be dumped into a mass grave with those killed in battle. You will descend to the pit.
– Isaiah 14:4,9,11-16,19, NLT
Isaiah 14:12 ASV
₁₂ How art thou fallen from heaven, O day-star, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, that didst lay low the nations!
